OUR PROGRAMS

Healthy Snacks

Providing healthy alternatives.

When I first volunteered at the food bank I noticed how many bakery goods we get in. Each week we give out dozens of cookies, cakes, and donuts to families. Another board member and I wondered how we could give out healthier food to clients.

Knowing from experience that young children will eat and enjoy healthy food, I decided to try to give young children alternatives to all the baked goods. The idea for healthier snacks at the Food Bank was born.

I wrote several grant proposals and was given a grant of $10,000 from Seattle’s Norcliffe Foundation to start the program. The program has been well received by parents and kids alike.
