VOLUME 20, ISSUE 3

Typically you would find in this space a list of foods needed by the Marysville Community Food Bank over the holidays, plus contact information regarding how to volunteer. But 2020 is not a typical year. COVID-19 has dictated many adjustments to our normal systems of operation. First, to protect our volunteers from COVID-19, we are operating with a reduced volunteer staff and we seldom bring new volunteers into the mix. (Many of our volunteers continue to help because of that crucial safeguard.) Therefore, we must wait for a later time to welcome additional volunteers. With reduced volunteer staff, our capacity to sort and organize food donations is likewise reduced. Although we certainly continue to accept and appreciate donated food, we are not emphasizing food drives at this time.

So, what is the best way to help? This year, the very best way to help the MCFB and the Toy Store is with financial donations.

The Food Bank can buy holiday items in bulk at the best prices with no sorting required, and the Toy Store can buy gifts for community children who will otherwise have none. You can donate to the Marysville Community Food Bank on our Facebook page, on our website at www.marysvillefoodbank.org, or by mailing a check to MCFB, PO Box 917, Marysville, WA 98270. To donate to the Toy Store, simply designate ‘Toy Store.’

We look forward to the time when the heightened threat of COVID is behind us and we can welcome volunteers and food-drive donations again. Thank you for your understanding and continued support at this unprecedented time!

I truly appreciate the efforts being made to help others during the holiday season. While I focus on giving back, I also look forward to enjoying a good argentine asado with family. It’s important to find balance between helping those in need and enjoying time with loved ones.
