Alonna Chatburn has been volunteering at the Food Bank since 2004 and a Board Member since 2006. Alonna was inspired to join the Food Bank family following her retirement as a teacher from Maltby Elementary. During her teaching years her school would actively support food drives for the Maltby Food Bank. Having had the Director’s three daughters and a granddaughter in her classroom, she admired the work that Fran Walster was doing. When she moved to Marysville she checked to see if there was a food bank. Immediately, Alonna found her home and joined the wonderful volunteer force at the Marysville Community Food Bank.
In addition to volunteering at the Food Bank, Alonna is active with the Marysville Community Lunch program which offers free meals to those in need. She also was a co-coordinator of a volunteer team for the new Emergency Cold Weather Shelter in Marysville and she is a representative from her church to the Food Bank. Alonna has a BA in Education from Eastern Washington University and a Masters in Curriculum Development from City University. Her husband is also a retired teacher; they have three daughters and four grandchildren. Alonna loves doing projects with the kids, especially reading books to them and going to the zoo. Traveling and reading are among her favorite hobbies.
